Houstonians will select a new Mayor, with Sylvester Turner being term limited out. The two top candidates are State Senator John Whitmore and Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee. That race is likely to go to a runoff next month, just like the 2019 race between Turner and Tony Buzbee did.

There are other issues that Houston are voters will decide on, including Harris County's $2.5 billion bond proposal, more than a dozen constitutional amendments in Texas, and various other municipal and school races.

The statewide amendments include everything from increasing the homestead exemption to teachers pay, broadband internet and even removing Galveston County's treasurer.
Harris County Elections Back in Clerk's Control
This election will mark the first under the control of the Harris County Clerk. Texas lawmakers abolished the unelected office of County Elections Administrator Clifford Tatum, during the regular legislative session. That move came after years of issues, with things coming to a head last year when several polling locations ran out of paper.
There were more issues on this Election Day. Nearly 50 of the 702 county polling locations had technical issues to start the day.

Early voting ran smoothly by all accounts, with county officials saying that turnout was in line with expectations.
