Almost Half of Younger Workers Have Loose Lips About Their Salaries!

If you'd really like to know your co-workers' salaries - think young!

Bankrate.com analyst Sarah Foster. : "There's this long-standing taboo of talking to your co-workers about your salary and theirs. But younger workers are breaking those norms." Foster gives us some reasons: "Pay Transparency and Pay Equity are both major topics right now, especially among workers 40 years old and under. In light of inflation and The Great Resignation - these can be powerful topics to discuss among people you work with." She says it can lead companies to open up their wage rates, adding that younger workers will probably look for their next gig within the next 12 months.

Good News and Bad News about Houston's Salaries

With inflation at a 40 year high, almost half of American workers from ages 18 to 41 often talk specifics about wages with their co-workers. Foster says the conversation still could be sensitive. "I think money is obviously is very personal; it's tied to our self-worth. It's a topic that is often avoided because we don't want people to feel ashamed and bad." Foster emphasizes that in the last year over 60% of workers 41 and younger either moved to a new job, asked for a raise or wanted more work flexibility.
