Pre-Emergent Herbicides

Okay, so yesterday's tip sheet on Pre-Emergent Herbicides and today's profile may be a case of putting the cart before the horse, but the tips are supposed to be related to gardening practices while the profiles are intended to introduce a person, place, plant or product.

So, here's an introduction to the three most readily available pre-emergent herbicides, which I will be earnestly encouraging you to use in the coming weeks.

  • Nitro-Phos Barricade-based
  • Bonide’s Dimension-based
  • Ferti-lome’s Hi-Yield Dimension-based

While you'll find all three at all types of stores, the most widely stocked is Nitro-Phos Barricade. Plus, it's usually the most cost-effective in terms of price per square foot.

I'm always working to find the best deals for you, but when it comes to pre-emergent herbicides, when you find one of those above, buy it! My fertilization schedule calls for pre-emergent herbicides at least three times in each calendar year, and these products tend to be sold out at certain times. And with COVID-19 disrupting supply chains, I cannot emphasize enough that you should grab them when you can.

Most of the time, all three are available at the nurseries, garden centers, hardware stores and feed stores I promote and endorse on the radio program. I believe the Ferti-lome product is also sold at big box stores, but I make no promises.

If you have questions about locating the stuff and exactly when to apply it, please give me a call on the air tomorrow morning at 713-212-KTRH (5874).
