Medina Soil Activator

If you listen regularly to the GardenLine radio program, you’ll very often hear recommendations for a plethora of Medina products. So often, in fact, that I’ve been accused of owning Medina stock. I don’t. They don’t even have stock. This is a family owned-and-operated agricultural product company that’s been in business since 1962 and based in the sprawling megalopolis of Hondo, about 45 miles west of San Antonio.

So, why do I recommend their products so much?!  Because they work!

My introduction to Medina products started immediately after I took over the GardenLine program from Bill Zak, nearly 22 years ago.  Medina was already a sponsor.  But I knew nothing about their products until I got a package of samples from the owners and tried them out at my first home in Cypress.

I had told the folks at Medina about a spot in the backyard of my new house that had fertility and drainage issues.  It was the true definition of what we call “hard-pan soil.” Their suggestion of saturating the area with some “magic” liquid seemed far-fetched to me, but I did what they said and soaked the area every week for two months. Then, shazam - it was the greenest, healthiest looking section of the lawn by July.   Needless to say, I was hooked.

I then went back and looked at all the information Zak had left me regarding Medina products. Dominant in the material were Medina Soil Activator and Medina Plus (which is Soil Activator with added seaweed extract). The material offered this info: “The original biological activator for the soil, called “Yogurt for the Soil” by natural gardening experts, stimulates beneficial organisms in the soil. You’ll notice a healthier, stronger root system because it actually loosens and balances the soil. It’s excellent for revitalizing tired, overworked lawns and gardens. Medina Soil Activator can be used with most fertilizers, herbicides or pesticides, or in conjunction with natural soil building practices. It is excellent for compost piles, and derived from a complex bio-catalyst process. It’s also fortified with essential micronutrients. It stimulates, strengthens and multiplies the soil’s indigenous microbes and bacteria.”

I found all this to be true, and have never stopped using the product

This piece is dedicated to profiling just this one Medina product, buy you can rest assured that all their other offerings will also work just as they say.

If you’d like a little more technical information, and the reasons why I recommend this product for anyone needing soil remediation, know that Medina Soil Activator and Medina Plus also convert nutrients into usable food for plants. Both also balance the soil micro flora, soil pH and soil structure. They also reduce salt accumulations and chemical buildups, promote root growth, and lessen soil compaction.

So, when you hear me talking about Medina Soil Activator on the show in the future, instead of wondering if I might be reaping stock profits, just remember all those soil-remediation benefits. And know that GardenLine listeners and I have had a long record of success with this product that started the Medina company more than 55 years ago.
