How Will The April 8th Eclipse Impact Air Travel?

Look Up!

Americans across the country are looking forward to seeing the total solar eclipse next month, but some are concerned about its effects on air travel. The good news is, like any storm, we've seen it before, we know it's coming, and we can prepare.

KTRH aviation expert Jay Ratliff says, "You're going to have an increased number of general aviation, so as a result, the FAA is saying, 'We could have some delays as this moves across the country.'" Ratliff says the increased traffic will be mostly due to people using private aircraft to get above the clouds in order to catch a better view of the eclipse.

Ratliff reiterated that this is something the FAA is well-prepared for, saying, "They've done this before. They know exactly what they're doing. But they want to let passengers know they could experience some delays as we approach the 8th of April."

Ratliff advises that if you're traveling on the 8th, just keep an eye out for information on your flight and make sure to arrive at the airport at least two hours early.
