In the competitive world of broadcast….maybe in your profession too….the norm is every man for himself. Except when it isn’t. That was my first thought when learning of the death of legendary Texas broadcaster and TV weatherman Ed Brandon. Our friend lived and worked believing that every man (woman, child) was not him, but all of you…and not just listeners or viewers, but stakeholders in Houston life.
Ed joined Houston’s Channel 13 in 1972….I got there eight years later…and was warmly welcomed to a team that became family. Ed quickly became older brother. But what a teacher in the art and the heart of communication. Ed showed all of us that talk is a two-way street and that’s what takes it to a level of actual service. Houston TV and print is flowing with remembrances of Ed Brandon right now. And among all who knew him, that flow will continue.
