Remembering the Alamo is something inherent with Texans. It's more than a symbol, it's a shrine, where martyrs to liberty died in a final stand, knowing there was with no reinforcement.

Texian leaders to the east were declaring independence of the fledgling Republic and assembling what they could of an army, as the Alamo garrison held the line.

Those defenders did hold out for 13 days against overwhelming numbers of Mexican troops led by dictator Santa Ana. The final moments of individual defenders still debated....did David Crockett go down fighting or was he captured and executed? The bodies of the defenders burned in a common grave. The actual site, the building remains, solidifying our ability to Remember the Alamo.
