August 21, 2017 is the date of a once-in-a-lifetime event for people in the 48 contiguous United States of America. We will witness a total solar eclipse.
Yes, total solar eclipses are not rare, seen on average twice every 3 years, viewed from some place on Earth. But this one is ONLY visible in America….and a 70 mile-wide swath of the country from roughly Portland to Charleston will be in the cone of totality. The Sun will be completely obscured by the Moon’s shadow…going dark for a matter of 2 minutes plus. Imagine seeing stars in the daytime.
Parts of 14 states will go dark. The rest will witness partial eclipse….of great degree. It just promises to be spectacular. I’m chasing it….trying to get myself under totality in the best weather possible.
I’ll tell you all about it when I get my feet on the ground.
