Funny thing about trust. Some people give it automatically, and if they are lucky, never have their trust betrayed. Others, skeptics, take the view that trust must be earned. Maybe you're a bit of both.

As a veteran of the so-called news and information wars, I've felt incredible dismay to watch the steady decline of trust in, and the betrayal of trust by, the media.

A recent Pew Research study finds that Americans overall, but Republicans by a much wider margin than Democrats, are falling to new lows in media trust. The numbers: 11% of Republicans, only 34% of Democrats find the media very trustworthy. Only 18% of Republicans, 35% of Democrats believe the national media keeps us informed. The overwhelming majority of Americans...we've lost you. Sadly, I feel that way too, as once-trusted sources play their dangerous game with our Republic.
