It’s far-reaching and powerful…the Webb. That’s with two b’s and it’s a telescope.
The James Webb Space Telescope is as tall as a 3 story building and that’s significant for the observations it will make. Webb will find the very first galaxies that formed after the Big Bang and study planetary systems around other stars.
It’s making a journey for further testing from Goddard to the Johnson Space Center here before its scheduled launch in 2018. Webb is going to be folded up like a giant origami into an Ariane 5 rocket and then deploy like a transformer once in orbit…nearly one million miles away from Earth. We live in amazing times.
