Governor Greg Abbott took to his X account yesterday to celebrate the success of his Operation Lone Star program, which he launched in 2021 to secure the Texas/Mexico border. Abbott shared an article from the Media Research Center which showed that illegal border crossings were down in Texas.

At the same time, illegal crossings in other border states like California and Arizona, both far outside the scope of Operation Lone Star, have risen by 35% and 52% respectively.

Abbott credited Operation Lone Star directly for those numbers in his X post, saying, "Operation Lone Star is working. Look at the graph in this story. Illegal crossings are going down in TX while at the same time they are skyrocketing in CA & AZ. It's because of the border wall, razor wire barriers, the National Guard & arrests by DPS."

Opponents of Operation Lone Star have claimed that it's an overreach of Texas' authority, but at a time when small Texas towns are at the epicenter of the often-violent immigration crisis, the results here seem to speak for themselves.
