Rising healthcare costs continue to be one of the major affordability issues for Americans. But former House Speaker Newt Gingrich recently wrote in an op-ed for Fox News, that Republicans now have yet another chance to finally fix the broken healthcare system.
"I think Republicans have a great opportunity to fix the problem, but I think they have to do it incrementally" said Dr. Robin Armstrong, who is also a Galveston County Commissioner and RNC Committeeman.
The first step is dealing with the disastrous 'subsidies', which most believe should go to the American people, not the insurance companies.
"Just give the money to them, and let them choose, we would actually save money by doing that" Dr. Armstrong told KTRH, "You decrease costs for the consumer if you lessen the power of this third party player, which is the insurance companies."
Unfortunately, the Democrats want to continue throwing more money at the ACA to try and keep it afloat, which is something that Republicans cannot agree too.
"Obamacare has made the healthcare system worse, it's increased prices for many people, and it's lessened access to healthcare" noted Dr. Armstrong, "And so I think that there's a lot that needs to be done. The question is, how much can be done right now?"
With the Obamacare subsidies set to expire at the end of the month, lawmakers are supposed to take a vote on it sometime next week.
