TV Anchor Suspended For Donning Afro Wig To Celebrate 70 Degree Temps

How long before they come for Bob Ross and his Afro?

To celebrate temperatures dropping into the 70s, KATV Little Rock Anchor anchor Chris May and meteorologist Barry Brandt donned Afro wigs in what they called a "return to the 70s".

Apparently that is considered ‘racist’.

Yup, Will Ferrell you too are about to be cancelled.

The station suspended May and Brandt.

And that wasn’t enough so they fired News Director Nick Genty.

The Arkansas Times reports:

“African-Americans, led by Dr. Anika Whitfield, complained about the wigs, saying they resembled Afro hairstyles and were evidence of systemic racism. Defenders of May and Brandt said no racial comment was intended and said white people also had curly hair in the 1970s...
When Whitfield’s initial complaint didn’t get an immediate response from station general manager Mark Rose, she turned to Sinclair.”

Sinclair put out a statement saying “KATV-7 apologizes for the poor judgment of some members of our news team. Understanding the severity of the situation, we have taken swift action to address it. We apologize to all viewers who were rightfully offended by the segment and we promise to enact and enforce new measures to prevent future incidents from occurring. We remain committed to serving the dynamic and diverse community of Little Rock.”

Activists demanded and got a zoom call with a Sinclair executive who repeatedly apologized.

Did they write a check or promise to pay one of these activists to conduct "diversity training"?
