Cuomo Commutes The Murder Sentence Of Weather Underground Terrorist

One of Cuomo’s last acts as Governor was to grant clemency to David Gilbert, a Weather Underground terrorist who was convicted of murdering two police officers and a security guard.

Gilbert was convicted in the 1981 murder of Nyack Police Sgt. Edward O’Grady, Officer Waverly Brown and Brink’s guard Peter Paige.

Gilbert is also the father of San Francisco District Attorney Chesa Boudin. Boudin's mother is also a convicted terrorist, Kathy Boudin.

No doubt that Chesa Boudin used his vast Democrat connections to lobby for the likely release of his dad.

Gilbert was serving a sentence of 75 years to life in prison with no possibility of parole until 2056.

More on the murders from the Rockland/Westchester News:

"The Oct. 20, 1981, Brinks heist started at the Nanuet Mall, where security guard Peter Paige was killed and guard Joseph Trombino, who later survived the 1993 World Trade Center bombing but died in the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks, was seriously wounded.
When police stopped the getaway drivers Boudin and Gilbert at the New York Thruway entrance along Mountainview Avenue in Nyack, Nyack Police Sgt. Edward O'Grady, and Officer Waverly "Chipper" Brown were killed by the robbers who jumped out of the rear of the U-Haul truck. Nyack Detective Arthur Keenan and Officer Brian Lennon were injured at the roadblock.
Gilbert and Boudin were among a group of 1960s revolutionaries affiliated with the Weather Underground and other radical groups that were holding up Brinks trucks to fund their plans."

The San Francisco Chronicle pointed out at his trial, Gilbert “and two co-defendants cast themselves as freedom fighters and deemed their trial illegitimate. At one court session, Gilbert and co-defendant Judith Clark raised their fists and shouted ‘Free the land!’”

In his announcement, Cuomo said Gilbert would be referred to the Parole Board for potential release and praised his “significant contributions to AIDS education and prevention programs” as well as his work as “a student tutor, law library clerk, paralegal assistant, a teacher’s aide, and an aide for various additional facility programs.”

New York Republican Assemblymember Mike Lawler blasted Cuomo for granting Gilbert clemency: “Andrew Cuomo’s final act as governor is a disgusting betrayal to the people of Rockland County. This year will mark the 40th anniversary of the Brink’s Robbery and rather than stand with the brave men and women in law enforcement, Andrew Cuomo has once again stabbed them in the back.”
