Gotta respect the scam.
The work by artist Salvatore Gaura is described as “immaterial” meaning it only exists in his mind. It recently sold at auction for around $18,000.
The work is titled “I Am” and the buyer gets a stamped certificate.
Garau defended his work, saying that he is not selling ‘nothing’ but a “vacuum.”
He says “the vacuum is nothing more than a space full of energy, and even if we empty it and there is nothing left, according to the Heisenberg uncertainty principle, that nothing has a weight. Therefore, it has energy that is condensed and transformed into particles, that is, into us.”
Garau even provided instructions for placing his artwork, stating that it should be placed in a space free from any “obstruction” within a private house. The instructions said that the space should be approximately 150 x 150 centimeters.
