A big manhunt is underway for the gunman who shot two sheriff deputies in an apparent ambush.
The Sheriff’s Department released video that shows someone walking up to a patrol car parked near a rail station in Compton and open fire. The incident happened on Saturday night at round 7 pm.
Los Angeles County Sheriff Alex Villanueva says the deputies, a 31-year-old female and a 24-year-old male, were shot multiple times but were able to radio for help.
A crowd of BlackLivesMatter supporters gathered outside of the Lynwood hospital on Saturday night where the two deputies were being treated.
Video from outside shows authorities trying to clear the area after a few people were seen blocking the emergency room exits and entrances.
One witness said some of the demonstrators even tried to get inside the building.
Bishop Juan Carlos Mendez with Churches in Action told ABC7:
“they were saying death to the police, kill the police and they were using all types of curse words and derogatory terms about the police, just provoking our police officers.(It's) unacceptable behavior because the hospital should be a sanctuary, we should leave hospitals alone."
The sheriff's department tweeted that protesters were yelling "We hope they die."
