New York values:Bronx man who viciously attacked NYPD officer last week during “demonstration” is released without bail while another man who broke the orbital bones of an officer is granted just $10,000 bail.
Last week, NYPD Chief Terence Monahan and three other officers were brutally attacked during a “protest” at the Brooklyn Bridge.
Quran Campbell, 25, is accused of punching NYPD Chief Terence Monahan along with two other officers.
Several pictures emerged from the incident that showed bloodied officers.
Campbell was arraigned on assault charges in Manhattan criminal court and was granted supervised release with no bail.
A second Bronx man, Banks Shaborn, 25, was also arraigned Thursday after allegedly clocking the same lieutenant, Richard Mack, of the department’s Strategic Response Group, multiple times in the face during the scuffle.
The suspects allegedly broke both of Mack’s orbital bones, sending him to the hospital for 12 stitches on his face after the melee. Monahan said he suffered some bruises and jammed fingers, but was otherwise fine.
Police said they recovered a Taser from Shaborn’s pocket and a folding knife from his shoe.
Shaborn, who faces assault and criminal possession charges, was held on $10,000 bail.
The prosecutor requested $75,000 bail for each man, the judge refused.
NYPD Chief Terence Monahan tweeted “Judge Robert Rosenthal’s reckless decision to release Mr. Campbell WITHOUT BAIL endangers every NYer and the officers who risk it all to protect them.”
