Orwellian: Cities Use Drones To Monitor People & Enforce Social Distancing

John Hinderacker writes at the Powerline blog that he’s ”surprised at how easy it has been for the authorities–liberal authorities, in most cases–to cow the rest of us into radically and unquestioningly changing our behavior in response to orders of dubious legality…”

Truth.

For example, the po-po in Savannah, Georgia have deployed drones to spy on residents and enforce social distancing rules.

The talking drones play a recorded message that says “Due to the current health emergency, members of the public are reminded to keep a safe distance of six feet from others.”

Similarly in Elizabeth, New Jersey the mayor is deploying drones to monitor citizens to ensure they are doing social distancing.

Residents who get too close to each other get a siren blast from the drone along with a warning that says “stop gathering, disperse and go home.”

Ridiculously, the mayor said in an interview with MSNBC “if these drones save one life, it is clearly worth the activity and the information that the drones are sending.”

As John Hinkeracker adds, “what we are seeing today goes so far beyond any historical precedent that I doubt that our freedom-loving forbears would have stood for it. But we seem to be untroubled.”
