The 911 systems in Del Rio and Kilgore, Texas were involved in the outage that hit several cities in four states. The problem affected cellular carriers. The HPOU's Doug Griffith says he's concerned that a future cyberattack could wreak havoc.
"That's a big concern for law enforcement across the country. If we do have a cyberattack, and are unable to get those calls in, those are people that are in dire need that we wouldn't know about," he said.
Griffith also said he wasn't surprised this happened.
"We do have problems now with these mobile carriers, and their ability or inability to keep a connection," he stated
The outage did not impact Houston's 911 system. But an outage last month forced dispatchers to record calls with pens and papers.
