Travel and vacations are back.
Americans are eager to get out now that COVID numbers are down. Hotel operators, restaurant owners, and travel agents are seeing a February spike in demand. Many are booking what's called “revenge travel,” which is a strong desire to take a trip in response to lockdowns and other restrictions.
“We see that people are focusing on ‘Hey, I may not be ready to travel today, I may want to wait and see. But I can go ahead and book a vacation six months from now’”, tourism expert Matthew Jones said.
He adds Americans don't want to wait for the next COVID strain and are even willing to pay more to insure they have a spot. So, where are the most popular places to go right now?
“People are lending heavily towards the sun and fun destinations,” Catherine Banks, with Legacy Travel, explained. “Of course, our friends in Mexico, you never had to have a COVID test to go there. People are dying to go back to Europe, but the countries over there have been a little iffy as far as today this the requirement, tomorrow that’s the requirement.”
She says prices have risen over the last couple of years due to inflation, but that has not stopped many from making plans.
