Nearly six-out-of-ten likely voters believe members of Congress care more about what the media thinks than the concerns of their own constituents.
Political analyst Vlad Davidiuk is not surprised by the latest survey from Rasmussen Reports, saying this has been the trend for politicians at all levels for quite some time.
“They typically have been held hostage by public opinion as framed by the legacy media rather than by actually interacting with their constituency and actually finding out what the grassroots average citizens want to have done,” he says.
Voters now feel they have become an afterthought.
“The reach of the messaging and how widely disseminated the views are is the primary consideration and the impact on the citizens they've been elected to represent sometimes becomes a backburner issue,” says Davidiuk.
