Fryer Feature: Battle of Normandy

The Battle of Normandy is filled with individual stories of heroism that arose from massive planning that often went terribly awry. Ultimately, victory was due to the actions of each and every man in the assault. So it was at Pointe du Hoc, the cliff in the west of Omaha beach, where the Nazis had placed a line of deadly defense, a coastal battery housed in massive concrete bunkers the bombers could not shatter. Even the blazing fire from the USS Texas failed to destroy. So it was companies D, E and F of the U .S. Army Rangers 2nd Battalion that did the job. They were led by native Texan Lt Col James Earl Rudder.
