The opioid epidemic may be behind a steep rise in hospitalizations for one type of stroke. Doctor Setareh Salehi Omran, pronounced, [[ suh-TAR-eh suh-LAY-he OHM-rawn ]], the lead author of a recent study of this, says the strokes involved are coming from heart infections.
Doctor Salehi Omran says hospitalizations resulting from this type of stroke have gone up 20-percent-per-year since 2008, right along with opioid use. Doctor Salehi Omran is with Weill Cornell and Columbia University medical centers.
