Senate GOP Advances ICE Funding Package

The GOP led U.S. Senate finally advanced the stalled immigration funding bill after months of delays.

The nearly $70 billion package to fund Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and Border Patrol was halted due to the addition of the Trump administration's "anti-weaponization" fund.

But that changed after Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche testified that they were "not moving forward" with the fund, which was going to help victims of the evil Jan. 6 weaponization during the Biden administration.

The 53-46 vote kicks off hours of debate, and Senate majority leader John Thune is hoping the GOP unity will continue.

"Hopefully, all of our members who have amendment ideas will, as they think through that, and they have the opportunities to have conversations about their ideas, keep in mind we need to keep the bill together and make sure we’ve got 50 votes for it," Thune said.
