There will officially be a changing of the guard, one way or the other, in the U.S. Senate come November.
In a landslide victory, Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton has defeated longtime Senator John Cornyn in the Texas GOP Senate primary runoff.
The runoff between the two has been largely reported as the most expensive Senate battle in U.S. history. Cornyn has held the seat since 2002.
Paxton said in a press release, "together, we just made history." He went on to add, "we just proved that this Senate seat doesn’t belong to Washington. It belongs to the hardworking men and women of Texas."
He will now face Democrat James Talarico in the November election.
