NOW: White House Shooter Identified and Taken Down by Secret Service

The suspect accused of opening fire near the White House has been identified as 21-year-old, Nasire Best from Maryland. Officials say the suspect was shot by Secret Service agents, then died on the way to the hospital. Best allegedly has a history of mental illness and was detained by the authorities back in June of last year for prior encounters with Secret Service which led to him being restricted from the area. President Trump was unharmed.

The White House was on lockdown for about an hour on Saturday after shots were fired near the grounds.

Chad Pergram of Fox reported the gunman approached the White House on the west side and fired at least three shots resulting in him being taken down by Secret Service. There is a report that a civilian was wounded.

The news comes after an attempted assassination at the White House Correspondents Dinner in April.

The lockdown has been lifted.
