According to new data, Texas currently has a teacher shortage of 12%. But Kate Bierly with the Texas Public Policy Foundation says, that number only applies to to teachers with university degrees.
"My research has led me to unravel the dirty secret, that a teaching credential through a university school of education doesn't work" Bierly said.
So, what does that mean? The real data tells an entirely different story.
"We're seeing there's virtually zero difference from teachers who go through a university school of education, and an un-credentialed teacher" Bierly told KTRH, "That's alarming."
Sadly, the focus of teaching has gone from education to indoctrination. That's why test scores, and historically low levels of reading and writing are now the new norm. And it all starts with a 'college' degree.
"I think it's meaningless to have a degree in just broad education, and then going in and trying to teach" noted Bierly, "Because, we've seen ideology has completely taken over. They've stopped training teachers to transmit knowledge, and they're training them to see the classroom as a vehicle for political activism."
She also notes that many private schools and charter schools in Texas, hire uncertified teachers.
