New Power Transmission Line Could Be Built Next To CCP Connected Land

According to reporting from The Texas Scorecard, ERCOT is working on plans for a massive new 765-kV transmission line, but there are some concerns that it could run dangerously close to land owned by a CCP-connected Chinese billionaire named Sun Guangxin.

The project is designed to carry energy from East Texas to the Permian Basin. A portion of the proposed transmission line is dangerously close to land owned by Guangxin, who has previously drawn attention for trying to build a wind farm near Lackland Air Force Base.

According to Texas Scorecard investigative reporter Robert Montoya: “This is an individual, and this is land that has already been a well-known potential security risk, and state lawmakers have already tried to act to contain this risk.”

A law passed by the Texas Legislature in 2025 banned certain CCP-connected Chinese nationals from purchasing land here in Texas. Still, despite this law, entities connected to Guangxin and his land were unaffected.

Montoya reported that state leaders have taken notice and action on the issue. “We now have 25 state lawmakers seeking a pause [on the project], because this is not the first question of due diligence when it comes to these transmission lines,” he said.

Montoya also reports that the PUCT has requested “evaluations” into whether the transmission line companies comply with the Lone Star Infrastructure Protection Act, which Governor Abbott signed in 2021.
