President Trump is officially aboard Air Force One and headed home after his state visit to China this week.
Before leaving, President Trump and Chinese President Xi held a joint press conference, where Trump touted “fantastic trade deals” and previewed an upcoming visit by President Xi to the United States in September.
One of the biggest questions surrounding this meeting was whether or not the issue of Taiwan—which China still claims sovereignty over despite its independence—would come up again. According to Secretary of State Marco Rubio, it did.
He said: “It was raised; they always raise it on their side, we always make clear our position, and we move on.”
One issue on which the U.S. and China appear to be in agreement is Iran. China agreed that Iran should not be allowed to militarize the Strait of Hormuz or impose a toll system. However, Secretary Rubio did say that China hasn’t committed to support the U.S.-backed resolution condemning Iran yet.
