Ship In Strait of Hormuz Says It Was Attacked Sunday

There is concern by maritime officials about an attack in the Strait of Hormuz on a commercial shipping vessel Sunday morning during a tense time of negotiations between the US and Iran.

President Donald Trump took time Saturday night to consider a peace proposal from Iran that reportedly had no mention of the nuclear materials that the US has clearly considered the top negotiating point in any proposal.

President Trump is said to have been "skeptical" of Iran's proposal, but has reportedly sent a response to the government of the Islamic Republic of Iran, which is being reviewed Sunday afternoon, US time.

Sunday morning, though, the narrow passageway known as the Strait of Hormuz off the coast of Iran was the scene of the first attack on a shipping vessel in the region since April 22nd, according to the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations center, which handles maritime complaints.

The center said is has received a report of an attack on a cargo ship -- not an oil tanker -- by a number of fast-moving boats.

No one was injured, but the concern is over whether those boats might be Iranian patrol boats, which meet the description -- small, hard to detect boats that have attacked a number of vessels in the area over the past few weeks, then quickly retreated to safety areas along the Iran coast.
