As the more rain continues to roll through Houston, CenterPoint Energy has released statement, assuring Houstonian's that they are handling the outages:
As severe weather moved through the Greater Houston area overnight and throughout the day, more than 96% of CenterPoint Energy’s 2.9 million customers experienced no impacts to their electric service due to significant weather, as of 4 p.m.
At the peak of today’s storm activity around 11 a.m., approximately 14,800 customers were without service. About 106,000 customers have experienced service interruptions since midnight, with over 103,200 of those customers restored as of 4 p.m. The average restoration time per outage is approximately 90 minutes. As of 4 p.m., approximately 3,000 customers are currently without power — approximately 0.1% of CenterPoint’s customers. These numbers may continue to fluctuate as additional storms move through the area this afternoon and evening.
Crews have been pre-positioned across the area and are actively restoring customers experiencing outages in the areas most impacted, including the Katy, Cypress, Baytown, Humble and Greenspoint areas of the company’s electric service territory, which experienced heavy rainfall and localized flooding.
CenterPoint’s Emergency Operations Center remains activated as crews support restoration efforts and continue executing preparedness actions ahead of continued weather impacts today.
“We know one outage is one too many and we are committed to getting the lights back on for each of those customers experiencing isolated outages following today’s storms. Our crews are out right now across the Greater Houston area working to safely and quickly restore customers, while also preparing for another round of severe weather tonight,” said Nathan Brownell, CenterPoint’s Vice President of Resilience and Capital Delivery and Incident Commander.
“As heavy rainfall continues and the threat of flooding remains across the area, we urge customers to stay prepared. We urge customers to stay aware and alert to the dangers of flood waters – and stay away from downed power lines that could be submerged in standing water. If you see a downed power line, stay at least 35 feet away and call us at 713-207-2222 to report.”
