Drought conditions have improved in the last 2 weeks as rounds of showers and thunderstorms blew through the Houston area. Space City Weather’s Meteorologist, Matt Lanza, says it’s a move in the right direction, but we could use more. “We just need to keep it up a little bit more. We can't have rain, and then 2 weeks of no rain. We will see if that can continue.” He said.
The meteorologist says much of Houston, Central and North Texas has seen rain, but much of South Texas including Corpus Christi hasn’t. “They’ve had less breaks from the dry periods at times. They need more sustained rainfall. “Lanza said.
He says Central Texas has eased their drought considerably and the region should be in good shape going into the summer.
Lanza says it’s good news, but Texas could use about a foot more of consistent wet weather, but not too much. With the extra wet weather, lots of topsoil has been replenished and creeks, rivers, and reservoirs have more stabilized water levels that had been dropping during the long dry stretch.
