More lawfare against the Trump administration, but it could just be a waste of time. Lawsuits have been filed to block the construction of the border wall in and around Big Bend National Park, but according to the Customs and Border Protection website, those plans appear to be already scrapped.
Even local Republicans have spoken out against the idea of building a border wall in that area, including Terrell County Sheriff Thaddeus Cleveland, who says there aren’t many crossings there in the first place.
He told Newsmax recently: “When you look out here at the Big Bend, the distance from the border up to routes of egress, where they get people out of here, it’s anywhere from a day, to two days, to even three days of a walk.”
Cleveland went on to say that there are more effective ways to secure that area than just building a wall. “Look, we have technology that works out here that we’ve been using for the past four years, with Anduril towers, as well as the Predator B drones. I’m against the barrier out in this area.”
That seems to be the way the Department of Homeland Security is leaning as well, because according to the Customs and Border Protection website, that section of the border is set to have a “smart wall” rather than a physical barrier.
