We are now seven years removed from the 2019 President Trump impeachment drama, which was launched by Democrats in efforts to knock Trump out of running for re-election while also knocking him out of office. New documents have come forward recently, released by National Intelligence Director Tulsi Gabbard, show that Democrats used Trump's 2019 called with Ukraine about Joe Biden's alleged using taxpayer money through the country to fire a prosecutor in the United States.
In short, Democrats used that call to say Trump was interfering in the 2020 election. When really, it was basic diplomatic relations in regard to a potential criminal case. It was all an effort to just go after Trump, the typical Democrat playbook. So, now a member of the House Intelligence Committee is saying it is time to expunge that impeachment.
New York Congresswoman Claudia Tenney is the one calling for that expungement, saying it is beyond time to get rid of this. She said recently that "we need to show we're going to stand up for the rule of law, for truth and justice...and this was unfairly done to President Trump." A statement of which is correct. The entire impeachment was a baseless witch hunt.
Amanda Head of Just the News says this is a good thing, but there is a bit of a hurdle.
"There is not really legislative precedent for this...this is something that is really going to have to be worked out in the procedural committees," she says.
There really is no previous times to look at in a case like this. Just three Presidents have been impeached ever, with Trump wearing the crown of having been impeached twice. The other two were Bill Clinton and Andrew Jackson. Neither of those ever even sniffed being expunged.
There is no rule for it because really, no one ever foresaw this as an issue. Which, can you blame the Founding Fathers? At some point you just have to cross your fingers, sign the paper and hope for the best.
"There are a number of members of Congress working out what votes are required, or who's committee this would even fall under," Head says. "When it comes to there being a will, it is certainly there, when it comes to there being a way...we will see."
Assuming they find some kind of pathway to doing this, there then comes maybe the biggest hurdle of them all. That would be Washington and its inability to do anything remotely productive or in unison.
But even if it is destined to fail, it is worth airing out the grievances in the open.
"This is the type of thing you want to come to a vote, even if it fails...you want to have those speeches for the American people to see," says Head.
She adds that even if this goes though somehow, we will not have to wait long for the next impeachment attempt. Because if Democrats win in November, we will be doing this same old useless song and dance for a third time in seven years.
