Business-Friendly Texas Joins "Boom Belt"

A group of 11 states -- including Texas -- called the "Boom Belt" is getting a huge portion of the wealthy people and companies who are leaving states that have too many business impediments.

That's what Dr. Vance Ginn of Ginn Economic Consulting says: "More conservative, less government, I think that's a big part of this."

The 11 states are known for their business-friendly laws and regulations, and in Texas you can include tort reform.

And "another big thing right now," Dr. Ginn says, "is tort reform, so hopefully all those other blue states that are losing people, they've really got to start being more competitive."

One of the most overlooked aspects of the success of these states is that there are always movements afoot to change the laws that have made these places so successful.

"One thing I'm concerned about, though, is Texas can't sit back on its laurels, though, it still has to make sure that it keeps its taxes and spending low."

"But right now," he says, "we're still leading the way."
