In a shocking new report from The Texan News, back in February, a group of Humble ISD students took a field trip to a Spanish Islamic Center.
The kids took a bus with teachers, and didn't return until 3:45pm.
"Public schools and resources should not be used to take students to an off-campus religious facility" said State Representative, Katrina Pierson.
But that is exactly what happened, as students got to learn of their rights as Muslims and allies.
"It is a gross misuse of taxpayer funds, and it has no place in the public school system" Pierson told KTRH, "And the reality is, had these students been taken to a Christian church, we know that there would be outrage and probably lawsuits filed by the end of the day."
That is why Pierson, and other Texas lawmakers formed the Sharia Free Texas Caucus in the House of Representatives. It's mission is protecting Texas from the growing influence of Islamic legal principles in American society.
"This is definitely something the caucus should look into, we should be asking questions" noted Pierson who also pointed out, "This isn't about just one religion, it's about keeping parents in charge of their children, and what they're being exposed to, in particular on the taxpayer dime while they're at public schools."
We did reach out to Humble ISD, but they did not respond to our request for comment.
