Harris County Commissioners gathered today, notably without Judge Lina Hidalgo, to discuss resolutions—including a resolution by Precinct 3 Commissioner Tom Ramsey that honors the Rodeo and condemns Judge Hidalgo’s actions at the event this year.
Hidalgo was removed from a Rodeo performance this year after she tried to access a premium area for which she did not have tickets. This resulted in her claiming that she was a victim of sexism and racism, as well as claiming that she was “manhandled” by Rodeo staff.
The Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo has officially denied all her accusations and revoked her credentials and official status with the organization. Judge Hidalgo has so far been unable to provide any evidence to support her claims.
Commissioner Ramsey responded by bringing forth a resolution that both honored the Rodeo and condemned Judge Hidalgo’s actions and comments and called for her resignation. The portions honoring the Rodeo were passed, but Democrat Commissioners Ellis and Briones cut the portions relating to Hidalgo’s actions.
Commissioner Ellis also brought up the idea of admonishing President Trump in the resolution, despite the fact that President Trump and his actions have nothing to do with Harris County, the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo, or Harris County government.
