Shelter In Place Lifted After Valero Refinery Explosion in Port Arthur

A shelter-in-place order has been lifted for parts of Port Arthur after an explosion at the Valero oil refinery Monday afternoon. No injuries were reported after the blast, according to the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office.

They added the explosion was likely caused by an industrial heater. The shelter-in-place order is in effect for the west side of Port Arthur, Sabine Pass and Pleasure Island. The blast happened in the late afternoon on Monday, with flames and smoke seen for miles.

Sabine Pass ISD is closed Tuesday as a result of what happened.
