Oklahoma Senator Markwayne Mullin Confirmed As Homeland Security Secretary

In a not surprising vote on Monday evening, the United States Senate officially confirmed Oklahoma Senator Markwayne Mullin as the next Department of Homeland Security Secretary.

The Senate voted 54-45 to confirm Mullin as the Secretary, with Kentucky Republican Rand Paul voting no. Democrat Senators John Fetterman of Pennsylvania and Martin Heinrich of New Mexico supported Mullin's nomination.

Mullin's confirmation comes after President Trump fired Kristi Noem. She was moved to be the new Special Envoy to The Shield of the Americas, a new anti-drug initiative in the Western Hemisphere.

DHS remains unfunded due to a partial government shutdown and has been for six weeks.
