Senator Markwayne Mullin has officially cleared his first major hurdle as President Trump’s nominee to replace Kristi Noem as Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security.
Mullin’s nomination passed out of the Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee, which primes him for a confirmation vote before the full Senate later this week.
Mullin received support from Democrat John Fetterman, who said: “My experience with you has been consistent kindness and professionalism.” Fetterman had previously pledged to support Mullin’s nomination.
He is widely expected to be confirmed by the full Senate.
