Update: Airport Delays Continue In Southeast Texas

Flights into and out of Houston airports suffered a blow while storms moved through the area Saturday evening, with the FAA ordering a ground stop that delayed flights by more than an hour.

Strong storms moved into Montgomery, Waller and Harris counties about 5 pm, slowing moving to the south and east, dropping lots of rain but also producing wind, thunder, and some hail, leading the Federal Aviation Administration to consider conditions too hazardous for flight departures from Houston's Bush Intercontinental airport.

This resulted in light delays that were already testing the patience of flyers, who were meeting a frustrating flight schedule because of delays and flight cancellations at airports nearly nationwide as bad weather attached to a frontal system moved southward, especially in the nation's east.

Bush Intercontinental Airport saw more than 500 flight delays and 50 flights cancelled as Saturday evening arrived and the ground stop called by the FAA was lifted about 8 pm.

Hobby Airport was similarly affected, though it only saw about 150 flight delays and a dozen cancellations.
