In a joint statement, House Republicans, Speaker Johnson, Senator Whip Emmer, and Chairwoman Mc Clain have asked Representative Tony Gonzales, R-Texas, to drop his re-election bid after he admitted to having an affair with a staffer- which is in violation of House rules.
Gonzales faces an ethics investigation into the affair with a former aide, who subsequently died by suicide, and is currently in a race against pro-gun activist Brandon Herrera after neither could win a majority of the vote on Tuesday's primary election.
The Ethics Committee has launched an investigation into the incident and have asked the Congressman to address the allegations with his colleagues and constituents.
