Are Bomb Drones The Newest Domestic Terror Threat?

Iran, the world’s number one state sponsor of terror, has used so-called suicide drones widely for years, and now concerns are growing that these drones could become key weapons for terrorists.

Experts are warning that stopping these drones could be difficult. Former FBI agent Stuart Kaplin explained how volatile a weapon they would be for terrorists, saying: “They don’t need a particular silo or sophisticated location to deploy them. They could be deployed in someone’s backyard.”

Kaplin says this could be an even bigger concern for sporting events, which a terrorist could potentially attack from blocks away. “How would law enforcement be able to identify and neutralize that particular threat?” he asked. “It would almost be indefensible.”

He went on to suggest implementing stricter standards for the purchase of certain types of drones that are already widely available on commercial markets—particularly those used by photographers and realtors to grab aerial pictures.

Kaplin suggested something along the lines of extra licensing or even some manner of background check for those looking to purchase these drones as a preemptive attempt to keep them out of the hands of terrorists.
