Early Voting In Critical Primary Starts Tuesday

Preparations for the 2026 midterm elections are already getting underway, with early voting for the primaries beginning this Tuesday and continuing through February 27th.

There are several important and contentious contests this election year, including the races for Texas Governor, US Senator from Texas, state Lieutenant Governor and state Attorney General.

Sometimes overlooked in important elections like this one that doesn't include the US Presidency, important offices for US representatives from Texas will be up for vote for the first time since the state legislature redrew district maps that rearranged a number of congressional districts.

For those who run a business or who are interested in state politics, there are several powerful positions that are up for grabs by the voters and their candidates, including the state accountant, the Comptroller of Public Accounts.

One member of the powerful Railroad Commission of Texas, which controls oil and natural gas in the state, has several opponents and is trying to get re-elected for the first time.

The longtime Agriculture Commissioner has opponents too, and this election he no longer has the endorsement of Governor Greg Abbott.

The Texas Supreme Court reaches a lot of important and far-reaching decisions each year that affect a lot of people, and three members of the court are up for re-election this year.

And there are plenty of hotly-contested elections for county judges, district clerks, commissioners, treasurers and court officers.
