Houston Mayor John Whitmire finally held his 'State of the City' address after postponing it last year.
The nearly :20 minute speech highlighted growth and progress, while also acknowledging the issues with crime and affordability. The mayor even promised not to raise taxes.
"Some of my critics, who only make me better, said you're going to have to raise taxes this past fall" Whitmire said before adding, "We're not going to raise taxes in this next budget cycle."
Whitmire also talked about his willingness to work across the isle with Republicans, something that Democrats don't do. Ever.
"if somebody wants to work with me to fix and improve Houston, I will go anywhere, anytime" noted Whitmire, "We don't have time for politics or time for partisanship. I want to get things done."
In closing, Whitmire announced a new mission for downtown Houston's 'Tranquility Park', while telling the crowd he's not worried about the next election.
