In what was supposed to be a day of praise following the weekend's arctic blast, turned into another round between Harris County Judge Lina Hidalgo, and Mayor John Whitmire.
Lina Hidalgo held a news conference first, and afterwards noted that she reached out to Mayor Whitmire's office about holding a joint news conference, and that Whitmire said no.
"The briefings should be joint, we invited his office to our press conference, and in fact we said you pick the time and we will make it happen at that time. So, I can only speak for my side" Hidalgo said.
And then later in the afternoon, it was Whitmire's turn.
"She has a responsibility, I have responsibilities, our staffs work very closely together, but I can't always meet someone else's schedule particularly when you get them at the last minute" Whitmire said, "I know you want to make an issue out of that, but it's a non-issue."
Mayor Whitmire also shot down another fake news rumor from the left, that ICE agents were looking for illegals at Houston warming centers.
"Today there were some disruptors, some mean spirited people that had spread word that ICE was monitoring these centers. There is absolutely zero evidence of that. They're open for every resident, no questions about immigration status" the mayor noted.
Also noteworthy, Harris County Precinct 1 commissioner Rodney Ellis took time to blame climate change for Houston's severe weather.
"We shouldn't act like this is normal, to have a 26 degree drop is not normal. We shouldn't act like that. So, we have put in place a 'climate action' plan" Ellis said, "It's getting people to realize that climate change is real."
