An elderly woman is dead after police say she got into a shootout with two home invasion suspects on Monday morning.

This happened in Northeast Houston in the early hours of Monday morning. When officers arrived at the scene, they said they found three people shot: the two suspects, a woman, and a man, and then the homeowner, a woman in her late 70s.

Officers said the two suspects entered the woman’s home wearing masks, and when the homeowner saw them, she began shooting, hitting both suspects. They were both transported to the hospital, one in critical condition and the other in stable.

The homeowner was also shot during the shootout, and she unfortunately died at the scene.

Officers said no one else was inside the home during the shooting.
