Winter Weather Watch: Preparations In Fort Bend County

As Houston gets set for the weekend weather blast, officials in Fort Bend County are prepared as well.

"Our emergency services are ready to go, and ready to respond" said Greg Babst, Emergency Management Coordinator of the FBC EOC, "We're ahead of this, we have plans in place with all of the needs that the county will have, and the citizens will have."

Needs, like getting the roads ready, checking the generators, and being prepared for any power outages.

"Also, setting up positioning for warming centers, possible sheltering if we go into a ERCOT grid failure, we are planning for that just in case" Babst told KTRH.

In what used to be a rarity, these arctic winter blasts are becoming an annual tradition. And that has definitely helped with preparedness.

"We've coordinated a situational response making sure that the county is ready and prepared to respond, and to support this freeze" noted Babst.

In addition to the 3 P's, (people, pets, and pipes) Babst says the most important thing you can do is -not- drive, and stay off the roads.
