Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton has announced legal action to defend the state of Texas’ designation of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) as a foreign terrorist organization.

The DFW and Austin chapters of CAIR filed a lawsuit after Governor Greg Abbott signed the declaration, claiming in part that it was a First Amendment violation. AG Paxton is now saying that their lawsuit “relies entirely on speculative claims.”

In a press release from his office, Paxton said: “Radical Islamist terrorist groups are anti-American, and the infiltration of these dangerous individuals into Texas must be stopped.”

Paxton’s office also pointed out that the state of Florida—and even the United Arab Emirates—have designated CAIR as a terrorist organization, and says an FBI special agent has labeled them a “front group for Hamas.”
