Brown Shooting Suspect Dead; Green Card Lottery Program Suspended

The suspected shooter in the Brown University mass shooting last weekend, has been found dead of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound inside a storage facility in Salem, New Hampshire.

Federal prosecutors obtained a warrant to search a storage unit in Salem, New Hampshire where they found 48-year old Claudio Manuel Neves-Valente. He is from Portugal, and has been in the US as a permanent legal resident since 2017.

Claudio Manuel Neves-Valente is also connected to the murder of an MIT professor earlier this week in Massachusetts.

Two people were killed in the Brown shooting, with nine others wounded.

Police detained a person of interest in the case on Sunday, but that person was released from custody on Monday.

In the wake of the attacks, U.S. Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem said she was suspending the green card lottery program, saying the man suspected of killing two students at Brown University had been granted one.

Noem posted to X late Thursday that she had instructed the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services to pause the (DV1) program “to ensure no more Americans are harmed by this disastrous program.”
